The Call of God

It Took a Lot of Faith

History of How the Church Began

Here is a history of how the church at A Crown of Eternal Life Church in Lubbock, TX began. Gladys was a struggling minister trying to speak the Word to all who would listen, holding church services out of her home in hopes of building a strong congregation. Of course, this came with many obstacles preventing her from realizing her dream of one day having a physical location to hold services. One day in April 2006, she was on the verge of losing her, going on 4 months without paying her mortgage, with little money and A LOT of faith. A stranger showed up at her doorstep asking for directions to a post office and a recommendation on food.

Help for a Struggling Minister

God Sent Help

After providing directions and telling this gentleman her restaurant of choice, he told her he was in town for a medical procedure and didn’t know anyone in the city and invited her to join him. Of course, Rev. Smith agreed and the two went and had lunch at a local restaurant where they discussed their lives and Rev. Smith’s vision of how her church would be if she had one. The stranger turned out to be a retired oil driller named Arthur Miller from Homer, Alaska.

Moved by the Word

Starting the Church

Moved by the Word, Mr. Miller said to Rev. Smith, “I’m going to start a church. Tell me about your vision. I’ve got the money, and I’m not going to give it to you, but to the Lord. Let’s go find a building.” Just like that, the two set off to find a venue to hold services all in the name of the Lord. Pentecostal Services were and still are kept on Wednesday nights from 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. and on Sunday mornings from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. and Sunday evenings from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
